WHO IT IS FOR

Two or three accounts can carry your year. Only if you take all of them.

You are covering a big account with a small slice of it. Big accounts do not stay small by accident — approach one with a slice, and sooner or later somebody pushes you out of it.

WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING

A sponsor may be powerful in the region and irrelevant globally. If they cannot override a global decision, you are talking to the wrong person — and you will not find that out in a CRM field.

THE WORK

  • Sweep the table: see the account through the customer’s eyes, including the parts you do not sell to.

  • Map power before it becomes a forecast. Take a position on who can approve, who can block and who can sell for you.

  • Ramp new account directors on live deals, not after two quarters of enablement.

  • Apply active guidance on named, in-flight opportunities — not a curriculum or retrospective analysis.

THE OPERATING STANDARD

A new account director should be productive in about a month on live deals. The deal in front of you, this week, is the curriculum.

THE NEXT MOVE

Do not start with a programme. Start with the one live deal, account or operating problem that tells you where the motion is missing.
